◎    Q:How to develop wisdom?

我們每一個人其實都有和佛一樣的無盡妙智，只是佛的智慧沒有被欲望、知見障礙住，而我們眾生的智慧卻被重重的欲望及知見所障礙。所以我們並不需要增進智慧，只需掃除遮蓋智慧的障礙，而最有效的掃除方法便是│用三寶。

Each of us has the same wisdom as Buddha. The difference only lies on the fact that our minds are covered with many desires and conceptions, but Buddha isn’t. Therefore, we don’t need to enhance wisdom but to sweep off the obstacles of wisdom. The best and most effective way is to use the Three Treasures.

如果我們的智慧是鏡子，那麼欲望和知見便是鏡子上的污垢。只要污垢除去，則智慧如明鏡一般，可照見世間萬事萬物，洞悉一切真理。

If our wisdom is compared to a mirror, desires and conceptions will be the dirt or dust on the mirror. If the dirt is cleared, our wisdom will be like a bright mirror which can reflect everything in the world and then we can realize the truth.

    至於如何掃除無明污垢？唯有用三寶，如何用三寶？一、常叩首。二、默念真經。三、守玄。

How can we clear the dirt in our mind? The only way is to use the Three Treasures. Three effective ways are prostration, reciting the Five Word Sutra, and focusing on the Wisdom Door.

    若用三寶有障礙，無法契入，則可藉由渡人、辦道、克服用三寶的障礙。因為若心中的貪、嗔、癡過重，則很難一下契入三寶，用三寶無法持續或產生不舒服的副作用時，可透過道場中的渡人辦道，及佛規禮節運作，來當作修道的入手工夫，則可更容易契入三寶。

If it’s hard for you to concentrate on or use the Three Treasures, you can try to get rid of such obstacles by taking part in Tao affairs. The reason for this is that our greed, hatred, and stupidity prevent us from concentration on the Three Treasures, so we may feel uncomfortable or unable to preserve when doing the practice.

    時常用三寶，慢慢的煩惱較少，欲望較少，知見障也減輕，智慧明鏡則逐漸顯露出來，自然可洞悉宇宙世界一切真相，而不會在塵垢遮蔽下，扭曲了世間的實相，這就是智慧流露。方法很簡單，用三寶，也決定有效。

    Keep using the Three Treasures, and our worries, desires and obstacles from conceptions can be reduced and our wisdom can be revealed. Thus, we can realize the truth of the universe naturally instead of misunderstanding it. Using the Three Treasures is simple and definitely effective. 

一般人總以為要增長智慧應該要廣學多聞，事實上不然，若尚未清除障礙智慧的污垢，則學得再多，也都無法洞徹真理。廣學多聞只是增加「知識」，而.不是「智慧」。

Common people usually think the way to develop wisdom is to learn more. In fact, this is not true. If a person cannot clear the obstacles to wisdom, everything he learns only becomes knowledge. He still doesn’t have the wisdom to perceive the truth.

    人類的智慧寶庫，原本就有無窮盡的實力，不需要我們再去增長，只需要掃除障礙智慧流露的污垢。

    Human wisdom is unlimited. We don’t need to pursue it but only need to sweep off its obstacles.

    只要常在三寶上下功夫，我們都有和佛和聖賢一樣的智慧，師尊在性理題示中也說：「誰能克伐氣慾，復明理性，就是聖賢；不能克伐氣慾，恢復理性，就是愚凡。譬如明鏡，本體原是純明，但是經過時候多了，就落上灰塵，如不加以洗拭，那明鏡就不會再明。」

    Once we keep practicing the Three Treasures, we can recover the same wisdom as Buddha and saints. Our 18^th patriarch once said, “Whoever can control his temper or desire and can reveal his bright true nature is a saint. Whoever fails to control his temper or desire and cannot reveal his bright true nature is only an ordinary person. Our minds are like a mirror. It is bright in the beginning, but it may have dirt when we go astray. If we don’t wipe off the dirt, the mirror will not be bright anymore.”   

    所以要增長智慧唯有用三寶，將我們智慧明鏡上的塵垢慢慢掃除，則不必外求智慧，智慧自然流露。

    Therefore, only by using the Three Treasures can we clear the obstacles to our wisdom and let it reveal again
